ADELAIDE Capital of South Australia Population1.4 million.

GLENELG Popular tourist beachside suburb. Very popular area. Local shops, restaurants and hotels. The only tram service in Adelaide runs along Jetty Road from Moseley Square, GleneIg.

BRISBANE The capital city of Queensland. Population 2.6 million. One hour drive from the Gold Coast. Australia's holiday destination.

CANBERRA The national capital of Australia. 280 km south west of Sydney and 660 km north east of Melbourne. Population in excess of 400,000. Established 1913.

Australian War Memorial. Canberra. Free entry.

Roll of Honour. Contains the names of over 102,000 members of the Australian armed forces who have given their lives as a result of war service. Tomb of the Unknown Australian soldier located in the Hall of Memory. Hall of Valour. Many Dioramas (picture models) from World War I and many exhibitions.

Federal Parliament House. Canberra. Free entry.

Opened 1988. Cost more than $1 billion to build. 4,700 rooms. Many open to the public. The main foyer leads to the Great Hall. Where banquet dinners are held for up to 600 people. I have had the privilege to attend one of these. The Great Hall capacity,1000 people.

DARWIN Most northern Australian capital city. Population greater than 140,000. Flight time from Melbourne 4 hours. Sydney, 4 to 5 hours.

HOBART The capital city of Tasmania. Population greater than 230,000.

MELBOURNE Capital of Victoria. Population Five million. Driving distance from Sydney is almost 900 km. The Hume Freeway is the shortest route between the two cities. The Hume Freeway runs the entire distance.

FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND

CAIRNS Tropical regional city population of greater than 150,000.

GREEN ISLAND RESORT Green Island 27 km offshore from Cairns.

KURANDA SCENIC RAILWAY The length of the railway is 37 km. Almost two hours ascending from Cairns one way including the stop to view Barron Falls. Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper washed out sections of railway track on December 13th 2023. Expected repair and further track works set for completion by July 2024.

LAKE BARRINE Bus tours are available. Brief stop in the Atherton Tablelands, Far North Queensland. Walkway of 4.5 km around Lake Barrine. A tropical rainforest encircles the lake.

SOUTHERN  QUEENSLAND

GOLD COAST Coastal regional city in Queensland. Australia’s domestic holiday capital. Population well in excess of 500,000. 60 km south of Brisbane. 850 km driving distance from Sydney. 1,750 km driving distance from Melbourne. Surfer’s Paradise surfing beaches and swimming.
